WARNING: Do NOT use Exodus Hosting

We transferred our server to Exodus in early July 2013. We were REALLY excited about the move because we had seen so much positive feedback regarding their service. Unfortunately it did not take much time before we realized how big of a mistake we had made.

Unlike many servers we have an experienced staff of programmers who handle the admin and technical aspects. We have had great success and we were looking forward to expanding our success with Exodus. Sadly, we encountered so many issues with Exodus and even when we explained in detail how to fix the issues, Chris, the “Executive Technical Officer” could not figure it out. For three weeks we tried our best to get the support we needed. During that short time our assigned server was down for 4 days total (no refunds or extensions) and even WORSE, Exodus allowed a security breach where private client information was used to send out false information. In trying to explain the situation, Chris stated in an Email that it was a “technician” who had been compromised, but at the end of the day it was he, the owner who had allowed the security breach. Bye the way, Chris just so happens to be the head of the billing department so if you too run into problems don’t expect any refunds for unused time.

I do not recommend Exodus for anything, not even a vanilla server. Maybe they started out well, but at this point I believe CHRIS may be wearing too many hats and just completely out his depth.

One last thing… they CLEANSE their twitter feed religiously. Don’t use that as a measurement.

Pretty much you get what you pay for, I got a 2GB server to have a tekkit server, and it ran brilliantly, with 30 players as a cap, and it didn’t crash. We got more popular, though, and we needed to upgrade, but after every upgrade, our server started to crash…more….and more…which made no sense, a 6GB server should NOT lag with tekkit installed and 40 people online. They also REFUSED to refund me my account credit balance, basically stealing my money and telling me to stop contacting me or they would just ban me and told me that I was “harassing” them and “threatening” them, I figured out just in time that my last payment was in the 3 day window of the “refund time” and they told me the only way they would refund me is, and I quote.

“I can give you an 80% refund on the $21.73 if you wish. But we ask that you refrain from further bashing and attacking of our company.”

So, let me get this straight, telling you your service is terrible is bashing and attacking your “company?” Especially when the owners live in boston and oregon, and have it registered to a phone number that 147,000 other websites are registered to, and that they claim to be in PA from the registrant, and the IP they are registered to is out of canada…I’m pretty sure there is a law against how much they are lying in this whole thing. As the other poster said, this service is a con-artist and if you make a scathing review of their pathetic service on their site they will take the review down and then ban you because of it.

Exodus Hosting; A con, or a really bad experience?

On the 20th July 2012 our server had to expand! We found exodus and saw the pricing was really cheap. We were not sure at why it was so cheap but we sure do know now!

On the day of purchase I began to upload my 125,000(ish) files to the server, their FTP speed was so shocking. Although I just assumed they must keep them on lower lines while the main server’s are kept running on fast lines. All I can say is I was surely mistaken! I opened the server a day after FTP started(it was that slow). It was great. the first 10 logged in fine. The next 10 started complaining of lag and then it got worse. The server was using 45% ram (and increased) with no one online, I host 70 slots on that server. As soon as a fraction of them connected it just crashed; again and again!

I told myself to “fuck it!” and to buy from BeastNode (who are brilliant!). I had no idea how to cancel my account on the site. So I made a PayPal claim. It was my first ever claim; well where I was the buyer that is! The service from BeastNode was brilliant and I was having a great time! Although then I read that I get a 3 day money back guarantee with Exodus. So I let my claim sort that out! So on the 1st August 2012 I get a reply from my dispute! WTF? I made the claim on day 1, it took them roughly 11 days to get around to reading the email from PayPal / check their PayPal. I don’t believe this; who does not check their PayPal. If you own a “business” as they call it then you are going to check up on your finances?

I send some emails to their support and get a snappy reply, is this because they know I am now out of the dispute time and the 3 day money back guarantee? I believe so. They conned me out of £30, which is not much but it all adds up. I ask them for there address to send any legal documents if I take this further and they tell me it is their personal information. The “CEO” of the “company”, Ben C, refuses to tell me how old he is after I ask. He tells me to talk to “Chris H” the owner. So I send my email to him suing reply-all and I get a reply soon after, here it is:

We ask that you please stop contacting our business and staff at this time. This is your last warning before it does become harassment. As Ben stated, we are not able to provide a refund simply because you did not put in a cancellation request within the first 3 days of service. We are not hurting for money, and we are not trying to scam you, this is simple business procedure, and any company would do the same.
 
So the last time I will say officially: We are not able to provide a refund on your transaction. You still have not submitted a ticket asking for a refund until today, and you are 25 days into your billing period (22 days past the refund window). You have used the following terms to describe our company and staff including (but not limited to) “low-lifes” and “thieves”, which we view as threatening.
 
Feel free to contact the FTC, or to get a lawyer to write up an email to send to us if you wish, our email address us [email protected]. I will be sure to return any details including the payment date, the date you requested a refund via our support ticket system (8/15/12), and any other copies of the threats you have issued to our company and staff. I see that you are from the UK, so if you are unfamiliar with US law, those are all considered harassment, which is something we do not tolerate here at Exodus Hosting.

Threats? What threats? I may have called them names but I spoke no such threats! I told them I would tell the FTC and tell the community but no such threats. “because you did not put in a cancellation request within the first 3 days of service” They know I made a PayPal claim and they still fail to acknowledge they are committing fraud. “25 days into your billing period” well done, I am past the three days; but I made the claim after just the one day.

This means a PayPal dispute, e-mail, phone call, pidgeon letter, snail mail, bat-signal, or smoke screen will not apply as a valid method of cancellation.

Im sorry Chris, but we were arguing this before you changed. You changed it after you know you were in trouble. I made the claim before any of this. And we argued this before.

Let’s see where this ends up! As right now I am still being told no refund will be given.
