I signed up for a Copper VPS with Fragnet in December 2012. I had no interactions with their support until recently, so I can’t remark on the quality of support until now.

Let me just say that the quality of the core service has been stellar. I’ve had absolutely no problems with the network, and only a couple of reboots over a year of service. That’s excellent, compared to the budget VPS providers I’ve used in the past!

So this latest issue was surprising, to say the least. Suddenly, I found DNS (UDP port 53) to be blocked on my VPS. I host my own domains using BIND, so this is a problem in that clients cannot resolve my domains, so cannot reach my website. Not a big deal, as I just have a small personal website. But, it’s on my resume, and I’m a systems administrator by profession, so that’s a little embarrassing!

I filed a ticket with support. They responded (pretty quickly, within expectations) that they had a new policy that only outbound DNS was allowed, and then only to Google DNS (8.8.4.4, 8.8.8.8). I received no notification of this (a fact they did not dispute) and there were no notes of potential traffic filtering on the VPS purchasing page when I signed up in December 2012. There is still no note there right now.

So they told me that was the policy, but despite the lack of notification, didn’t whitelist my IP to bring my VPS up until I could make other arrangements. My VPS remained in an effectively down state (DNS blocked) while I followed up once, to receive a “we’ll get to you shortly” response followed by a day of no response. After I followed up again expressing my extreme disappointment, they finally whitelisted my IP address for DNS, fixing the issue.

This was a total of two days’ downtime after a little more than a year of a great track record — not due to a systems failure, which would actually be understandable, but due simply to a failure to notify clients of a new policy, and then neglect (and perhaps a failure to understand the issue). This just isn’t acceptable to me. I’m shopping for a new provider.

You should probably stay far away unless you enjoy being subject to the whims of admins who don’t care to notify you of changes that might affect the way you use their service.

I have been using Fragnet for the past 6 months. The servers are ok but the customer service is very poor. They keep having network downtimes and don’t have enough admins to take care of it. It takes an average of around 12 hours to fix even small things that cause big problems.
My site has been down now for the past 48 hours and no-one seems very interested to fix it. They keep blaming me for something that is a problem with their network saying that I have misconfigured the DNS and blah blah.. They assign the tickets to each other and keep pushing it away from their own plate. No takes responsibility. I would not recommend Fragnet as a hosting service.

Pros:
I have been with Fragnet for the last 6 months, and it has been great!
I basically bought this server for my clan, to built stuff, and create cities etc.

Server:
I run bukkit with around 12 plugins and have got 0 lag. Ping is fine too, and never gets higher than 80.

Support:
Support is absolutely fantastic. I get answers to any question (had a question for a plugin) , and they take less than 5 minutes to reply. Never experienced that with any other provider.

Cons:

No cons at all. Just had an issue with my account, but it turned out that I was using wrong password.

Highly suggest fragnet to everyone searching for a minecraft host!

I first started with a 1.5GB RAM server , and hosted FTB Ultimate on it.
It was working great, but after I installed some mods (5) and the server started to lag.
I raised a support ticket, and support got back to me after 10 minutes, saying that a mod was outdated and therefore the delay it was causing. I updated it, and everything was back to normal!

Their support is SUPER fast, ( I get answers every 5 minutes or even LESS! :O ) which I have never experienced before in any other hosting company 🙂

P.S. Jonathan and John are doing a great job 🙂

Totally recommend Fragnet if you want to host a REAL minecraft server!
